MEAL PREP: THE ANSWER TO THE WINTER BULGE- By Celebrity Fitness Instructor Charity Lynette

 

 

As the Summer moves on and the Winter rolls in, soon those that worked hard for that Summer body may start to store those winter pounds.  Here is my personal tips on Meal Prep and maintaining that positive weight as a lifestyle and not just as a seasonal goal.  Taking the time to do meal prep for the week is a great way to save money, time, and to keep you from eating out as much. The first thing you need to do is figure out the best day to prepare for your week.  Other factors that need to be considered, which meals are you planning for, your grocery list, and Tupperware containers. Make sure the containers has enough room for a 4 to 5 oz (fist size) protein portion (chicken or turkey patty), a section for your veggies, you can't forget a section for your good carbs and finally make sure the containers are freezer safe. Determining which meal you are prepping for is going to aid in your grocery list. So you will need a prep time of about 2 hrs once you have all ingredients in the kitchen and ready to cook. Here is a list of foods that you are going to need:

 

• Chicken(skinless and boneless is best but not the end of the world if it isn't) ground turkey 1 to 2 lbs (depending how many meals you are prepping for), canned or fresh tuna, fish is a great choice but doesn't heat up too well in the microwave so it is definitely your choice  (even if it is cold that would be a great salad topper) dark green veggies include the following: Spinach, kale, bok choy, broccoli and collards. Other veggies that are fine to use are green beans, squash, mushrooms, asparagus, zucchini, tomatoes, sugar snap peas, carrots, bell peppers (all colors), and cucumbers. Dark greens lettuce; red leaf, mixed spring greens, kale, green leaf, romaine  NO ICEBERG lettuce. Iceberg holds no nutritional value, its like drinking water and no vitamins, good carbs such as quinoa, brown rice, baked yams, and lentils. A carton of eggs that are to be boiled to have as snacks, breakfast, and go with salads. When prepping for salads make sure that you only do it for 3 days and to pack the dressing separate otherwise it will be soggy and you don't want to end up throwing any of it away.

You want to make sure that you grill, bake, or boil. No frying! When seasoning try and stick to sea salt, ground pepper, and Mrs. Dash season's are really good. Cook with lemons, limes, fresh garlic and onion to add additional flavoring. No butter, margarine or dairy based salad dressings. If you want to use a marinade be careful of the ingredients you don't want to be adding extra calories. There are great recipes on homemade salad dressings without all the added calories.

An idea for the ground turkey is to make them into patties it is easier to measure and know how much you are eating 1lb of ground turkey should make about 4 to 5 patties. Yams take quite a bit of time to cook so you could throw a few of those in the oven first since it will be about an hour and a half. Small or big yams will work but if you do the big ones you will need measure the amount so that you are eating the serving size. For all of the food use the serving size suggestion I wouldn't be mad about extra veggies though! LOL

 

Once the food is all cooked line up the containers and simply add the three componets: protein, veggies, and good carbs. Investing in a scale would be great but if not there are ways around that and you still get the correct portion. Palm size is great to determine the amount of protein and good carb you should be eating. So picture a plate, on half the plate should be your veggies, on the other side cut that half, in half for the amount of protein and good carb you should be eating in one sitting. If you don't want to freeze any meals then don't make more than 4 to 5 days worth of food. Even meal prepping for 3 days a week can still save money and time. Each container will serve as one meal it is your choice as to which meal you choose it to be. Also half of what is in the container would be able to serve as a snack as well.  Get some small containers so that you can snack prep as well.

The "Painting Dancer and Filmmaker" is world traveled with his film short "Be Seen, Be Heard" having been shown during the HBO Latino Film Festival of 2012, documenting the trials and triumphs of Urban Actors and Actresses . The full version of the film will be out soon with Taye Diggs, Oscar Winner Terry George, and actors on the rise discussing their journey of navigating through stereotyping within Hollywood. In addition to founding 'The Collage', Savior hosts 'The Freedom Party', NYC's longest running weekly party where ALL walks of life are welcome to come and enjoy featured DJ's, Artists  and an amazing vibe every Fridays at BB Kings venue in the heart of Times Square.

NEW YORK CITY, NY--It was an opulent, extravagant affair high above Midtown Manhattan, with the city skyline as a glittering backdrop, as Fashion On Broadway lit up the night over Herald Square.  Presented by Bobby Stone, leader of The New Old School (TNOS), this gala event featured the exciting new looks of designers from Khozi (Ricky Letteen, Priscilla Johnson, and Richard Johnson), Nayburhood Kool Kat (Ricky Letteen, Shalishia, and Buju), Blanche Will of B. Pretty Inc., Uniquely Crocheted Art of Sharon, Smoking Chronicles' T'Lea Styles, Jeff from IconiCreation, Fashion Whorehouse's Kim, and Basic Classics' Anbessa and Deb So Fancy, all of whom showcased their Spring collections.

The stars were out in full force, too, with the first lady of French Montana's Coke Boyz camp, Ana Baby, Multi-Platinum Record Producer Amadeus, R&B Sensation Tiffany Mynon, Hip Hop artist E-Reign (#MoneyCalling4Real), Celebrity Fitness Instructor Charity Lynette of Curvy Chick Fitness, Fyar Everything Clothing, Plus Model/Celebrity Caterer Belizean Flame, Monet Solomon of Phenox Jewels and Celebrity Blogger Jason Bourne all joining the festivities.  The Red Carpet lent the show a real hip-hop flavor, and Cynthia Horner, Editor-In-Chief of Hip Hop Weekly Magazine, Shamika Sanders of thisis50.com/jackthriller.com, Neenee Donaldson of Maybach Magazine, Nicole Flores of Full Blossom Magazine/Xponential Curve,  Fiona Brown of loveandfashion.org, Nicole Ferrell of DivaGalsDaily.com, Bryan of mediaHD and Official Sponsor FGM Magazine were among the many media organizations present.

Fashion On Broadway began with a Sip N Shop that included  complementary wine with hors d'oeuvres from 3:30 PM to 5 PM. The Pop Up Shop participants "Sweet Treats" by Richel, Kayonne Natalie Co. (Accessories) and "Sweet V" Clothing, began the day by wowing the audience on hand with amazing products.  The event was exquisitely catered by Joe Carter, whose culinary delights included shrimp balls, quiche, chicken enchiladas and mini beef wellingtons, complemented by chocolate strawberries Hennessy shooters, Moet, and other top shelf brands of champagne.  DJ Thunder kept the crowd entertained with a perfect combination of Old School and New School.  The  show was also made possible through the efforts of Edo Genius, Juicy Stone, and Druttz.  MNS Media PR, co-CEO Ernest Jackson brought it all together on the red carpet to add to a fashion-forward evening that was unparalleled in style and class.

Full Blossom Magazine 'Face the Sweet" Casting Call NYC

 

 

In New York City this past Saturday Full Blossom Magazine held an epic audition to be a part of the New York Fashion Week history making Runway Fashion Event. Gorgeous models from ALL OF THE WORLD including Canada, Brazil and Russia strutted for their chance grace the "Face the Sweet" Runway February 9th. Last year Eden Miller of Cabiria showed her Feminine, Flirty and Fun Collection as the first Plus Size designer to be featured on the NYFW runway and this year Full Blossom will follow in her footsteps as the "First Exclusively Plus Size Publication" to bring you a runway show in the likes of no other Curvy Catwalk.

 

 

"Face the Sweet" is part fashion show part fundraiser for the Diabetes Awareness organization 'Divabetic' which aims to bring information and Diva Appeal to those living with Diabetes. Divabetic believes when you look good on the outside you are more likely to effectively care for yourself internally. I had the pleasure of interviewing Divabetic creator and founder Max Szadek who was also a panelist in helping choose our Runway Models. Max spoke with FBM TV about how the Divabetic name came to be, with the 'V' in DiVabetic representing the Late Great R&B Musician Luther Vandross who suffered from a stroke due to complications from mismanaging his Diabetes. Max worked for Mr. Vandross as his personal assistant and had discovered him unresponsive in his apartment. After speaking with the Late R&B legends Doctors, Max learned of the severity of the complications faced when a person mismanages their diabetes. He was later informed Mr. Vandross death could have been prevented and has since made it his life mission to prevent another loss to this illness.

Max had met Curvy Model Pioneer Catherine Schuller and a plus size beauty pageant and she has since been the ambassador for Beauty and Fashion with  Divabetic, playing a pivotal role in the organization outreach to women by Spreading their 'Glam More Fear Less' motto. Max wasn't the only panelist in the room with an amazing body of work. Also Present were Joy Ashley of the NYC Plus Model Network who recruits some of NYC most beautiful Curvy Divas to represent at various events including Ashley Stuarts Seasonal in store runway shows, Jeannie Ferguson of B.G.U (Big Girls united) the fiercely phenomenal runway coach and petite plus model was also on the panel looking for that WOW factor from the girls. The standards were high as all involved aim to bring the BEST NYFW Curvy Runway Experience to Zanger Hall February 9th. Andrene LadyDoves Founder of Unique Blend Models and Director of the Plus Model Division at Fashion Avenue News came through with her infectious smile and glowing personality, Glamologist and Human Barbie Creator Barbie Armstrong, Designers Rhonda Jones Carter of Juul Couture,  Mad Maxx, and Celebrity Stylist Carlos Otero, who has worked with the likes of The Late Great Salsera (AZUCAR!!!) Celia Cruz, Jennifer Lopez and Angelina Jolie. And these are just SOME of the distinguished panelist...
